The Sydney Metro stations list for the Western Sydney Airport project includes six new metro stations:
St Marys
Orchard Hills
Luddenham
Two stations within the airport site: the airport terminal and the airport business park
Western Sydney Aerotropolis (Bradfield)
The project received planning approval from both the Australian and NSW Governments in 2021. Specifically, planning approval for Sydney Metro’s rail development within the Western Sydney International (on-airport) boundary was granted in September 2021, while the NSW Government's approval was received in July 2021. Additionally, Australian Government off-airport approvals were received in June 2021.
Early works began in 2020, with major construction, including station excavation, starting in late 2022. The Australian and NSW Governments have awarded all three major contracts for the project:
Tunnelling Contract: Awarded to CPB Contractors and Ghella Joint Venture in December 2021 for the construction of new twin metro rail tunnels.
Viaduct and Associated Works Contract: Awarded to CPB Contractors and United Infrastructure Joint Venture in March 2022. This includes the construction of approximately 10.6 kilometres of elevated viaduct, earthworks for track formation, and rail bridges over the new M12 motorway and within the airport.
Public Private Partnership (PPP) Contract: The largest PPP contract in NSW, awarded to Parklife Metro in December 2022. The consortium will deliver six new stations, 12 new metro trains, core rail systems, and a stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills. They will also operate and maintain the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line for 15 years post-operation.
